James Blunt makes the ladies swoon with thoughtful lyrics and a romantic tone that he has coated with just the right amount of falsetto. In this acoustic cover of You’re Beautiful, Rob Yates delivers that emotion well in what looks to be his home studio? There’s a few hiccups on the guitar, but it seems that Rob was concentrating on the vocals. Well done on a tough song to cover!

There have been a lot of emails asking to include online guitar lesson videos, so here’s the first one! While My Guitar Gently Weeps is a song that can be appreciated by many, regardless of your favorite genre of music. This is the first in an Acoustic Lessons category now. It is a slight variation of the original, but it’s an easy video to follow and should have you playing it in no time. If you have any requests, or links of songs you’d like to see here, please feel free to send an email and/or link to jay [at] theacousticversion dot com. Enjoy!

Sticking with the Seattle sound theme for a minute, check out this unique acoustic version of Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit! This is Eric Roche doing his rendition of the popular grunge song that burrowed into our eardrums in the early 90s and never really left. Similar to the video that was posted here of Bon Jovi’s Livin’ On A Prayer, Eric plays notes of the vocal melody and the rhythm simultaneously. Great stuff!

If you liked Pearl Jam in the early 90s, then you most likely were a fan of this song from their debut album, Ten.  Eddie Vedder had one of the coolest voices to come out of the whole Seattle grunge scene at the time, and it’s still easily identifiable to this day (even though there’s been hundreds of imitators on the radio).  Watch the energy that comes from Vedder as he performs an acoustic version of Black at an unplugged show.

David Usher is seen here performing an acoustic version of The Music in the studio, alone with a mic and his guitar player. As always, David does a superb job and makes it seem effortless to project his unique voice and deliver his wonderfully original music. If you’re curious, this song is from Usher’s fourth solo album, entitled Strange Birds. Pick it up (or watch this clip over and over)!
