I won’t explain the entire sordid history of legendary (in my eyes anyway) hardcore punk band the Misfits, but here’s the CliffsNotes version:

  • lead singer Glenn Danzig leaves The Misfits in 1983 to form the group Samhain, and then later Danzig
  • After extensive legal battles, Jerry Only regains the rights to record and perform as the Misfits
  • A new version of the band appeared in 1995 with singer Michale Graves and drummer David Calabrese
  • Die-hard Misfits fans complained about the band’s new direction and lead singer Michale Graves, often unfairly comparing him to Glenn Danzig (whom he sounds nothing like nor has ever attempted to)

I can appreciate both flavors, though I do prefer the early horror punk version of the Misfits to the latter, more heavy metal incarnation. Michale Graves performed Dig Up Her Bones (one of the songs he wrote for the Misfits) acoustically at many small venues across the US, but never better than this one at a Borders bookstore in Taunton, MA.

The pinnacle of panty-dropping cover songs: Journey’s Don’t Stop Believing. Many have tried before. Almost all have failed. I spent approximately twenty-four minutes searching on YouTube for the best acoustic version of this song. This guy’s got it. He avoided a key error of many before him by bypassing the elusive upper E note. Good decision dude.
