Somewhere out in Fredericksburg, VA, Keller Williams is intently pouring, spicing, stirring, and tasting a mixture of whatever sonic ingredients he happens to have on hand. Equal parts alchemist and musician, the self-taught acoustic guitarist has shared the stage with such notables as The String Cheese Incident, Yonder Mountain String Band, and Umphrey’s McGee. But he’s at his best as a one-man-band, looping his funky Martin grooves through a delay system so they repeat indefinitely and adorning them with bass lines, two or three vocal harmonies, various drums and shakers, beat boxes, whistles, and other vocal sound effects, and even a little jig. It’s a sight to see. But don’t go running, acoustic purists. This freaker doesn’t need a speaker – he can flat out play.
